A wild new world

First of all, I owe an apology to my english readers for being so lazy in posting. It´s been a crazy time for me in the last 3 months, but finally I managed to gather myself together and start one of my lifelong dreams and goals: take a sabbatical period to focus only on my personal projects and to find again the things that motivate and make me tick.

It was a difficult decision, mainly because I got absorbed in this “work-is-the-only-form-of-success-in-life” nonsense and forgot about the most important thing: It is not what you do, but the satisfaction you can get from it.

Money is always an issue, but fortunately I´ve been saving for a long time and I´m out of debt with little or no possessions, so I can concentrate solely in finding again the right track. I´ve realized that my basic needs are really small and I don´t need a lot of money to satisfy myself almost completely. Happiness and joy are located in the most unusual places: reading a book from the public library, watching a small river flow, sleeping late, spending many hours thinking in a bright new idea, writing, chatting with friends, taking a walk…, and not in the nearest shopping mall (or eBay).

From now on, I have two goals: post regularly, and focus on my feelings and experiences in this new stage of my life. For the ones that have been following this so far, stay tuned, and for the rest of you that have just hopped in, welcome and please enjoy.

Ready or not, here I come!

How to deal with someone that tries to intimidate us

I found this little Buddha story very inspiring, specially in those awkward situations where a “though guy/gal” tries to make us feel threatened. Remember it the next time you have an argument of this kind:

“Once, a man approached the Buddha and verbally abused him. The Buddha just listened as the man continued voicing every insult he could think of. Finally, he stopped, and to his surprise found that the Buddha was smiling.

The man aked : “Why are you smiling ? I have insulted you and attacked your honour and screamed at you. How can you be so calm ?”

The Buddha asked a question of the man: “Tell me - if a man declined to accept an offered gift, to whom would the gift belong ?”

The man looked puzzled and answered : “It would belong to the person who offered the gift,of course,” he replied.

The Buddha said : “I refuse to accept your abuse.”
