One-of-a-kind drummer

Reason 4!

I just put my hands on the latest version of this fantastic virtual studio, from the folks at Propellerheads. The first thing I´ve got to say is that the delivery was lightning fast: I ordered it last wednesday, just some hours after its official launch (12:00h) and on thursday at 17:00h the man from UPS was knocking on my door! I wish all the deliveries were as fast!

I haven´t had much time to tinker with it yet, but in as little as one hour I managed to record this small fragment:

The new Thor synth is really hot, as well as the new features in the sequencer. The only downside is that I´ll skip many sleep hours from this night on…

Hey Eugene! The latest from Pink Martini

Hey EugeneIt´s been a long time since I had news from this Portland group, and I was nicely surprised when I knew that they had released a new record. This one, very similar to their previous work (Hang on Little Tomato and Sympathique), continues to have China Forbes, whose silky and melodious voice it´s a charm, as their main star. There are songs in various languages (japanese, spanish, english and even arabic), and, in general terms, the sound is very good and the songs are a nice treat to listen everywhere. Nevertheless, I think it´s time for them to start exploring some innovations in their music, to recover that fresh and clever music that I listened to when I found them, to avoid repeating themselves. My favorite picks? Mar Desconocido, Tea for Two, Taya Tan and Hey Eugene!, the one that the album is named after. As usual, please enjoy!

My Little Airport

MyThis weekend I discovered a Hong Kong duet that draw my attention. Pehaps it´s the simplicity of their music, or the delicate sound of their female, almost childish, voices or the somehow cheesy and vintage sounds that reminded me about the time when I started in this music world (a long ago). The album and song titles are kind of weird, because they´re quite long and describe some strange situations, like “The ok thing to do on sunday afternoon is to toddle in the zoo”. This is the name of the album I listened to. To start, you can listen to the song called “Victor, fly me to Stafford”, directly from their ultraminimalist web site. Please enjoy!
